What AllergyPass is — and isn't
AllergyPass is a practical travel resource site. The tools and content here are designed to help people with food allergies communicate more clearly, prepare more thoroughly, and navigate food environments in Thailand with greater confidence.
This site is
- A communication aid
- An informational resource
- A travel preparation tool
- A practical safety supplement
This site is not
- A medical service
- A healthcare provider
- A guarantee of safety
- A substitute for professional advice
All content on AllergyPass — including guides, allergy cards, translated phrases, and travel resources — is provided for general informational purposes only. It reflects personal research, professional healthcare background, and publicly available information. It should be used as a supplement to your own judgment and professional medical guidance, not as a replacement for either.
Medical disclaimer
AllergyPass is not a medical service and does not provide medical advice. Nothing on this site should be interpreted as a clinical recommendation, diagnosis, or treatment plan.
If you have a diagnosed food allergy, anaphylaxis history, or any other medical condition, your primary source of guidance should be a qualified healthcare professional — your allergist, doctor, or specialist. They understand your medical history in a way that no website can.
Use the resources on this site as practical preparation, not as a substitute for emergency medication, professional guidance, or your own informed judgment. Always carry prescribed emergency medication (such as an epinephrine auto-injector) when traveling with a serious allergy.
Allergy and food safety risks
Real-world food environments are inherently unpredictable. No tool, card, or guide — including anything provided by AllergyPass — can guarantee a safe meal or an allergen-free dining experience. This is a realistic statement about how food service works, not a legal evasion.
The following risks exist in virtually every food environment and are outside AllergyPass's control:
- Cross-contamination — shared utensils, surfaces, fryers, and prep areas mean allergen contact can happen even when staff try to prevent it
- Ingredient and supplier changes — menus and recipes change without notice, and substitutions happen frequently in restaurant kitchens
- Hidden allergens — many common Thai dishes contain allergens not listed on menus, including shellfish paste, fish sauce, peanuts, and tree nut oils
- Preparation variability — the same dish may be prepared differently across visits, locations, or staff on shift
- Staff understanding — communication accuracy and kitchen capabilities vary significantly between establishments
- Restaurant misunderstandings — even with a card, a server may not understand the severity of an allergy or the concept of cross-contamination
If you are unsure — don't eat it. No meal is worth a serious allergic reaction. AllergyPass tools are designed to improve your communication, not replace your personal risk assessment at the table.
Translation limitations
The allergy cards and translated phrases on AllergyPass are communication aids. They are designed to help you convey your dietary needs more clearly in Thai — they are not certified medical translations, and they should not be treated as such.
Thai is a tonal language with regional dialects and variations. Words that clearly communicate allergy severity in one context may carry different weight or be interpreted differently in another. AllergyPass translations are developed with care and reviewed for accuracy — but no translation system, including ours, can guarantee perfect comprehension in every circumstance.
The translations here are human-written, not AI-generated. They are not automatically produced from a database. That said, language is nuanced, and we acknowledge that errors or regional mismatches are possible.
When the stakes are high, seek additional confirmation from a local interpreter, your hotel concierge, or a Thai-speaking person who understands food allergy severity. Our cards support that conversation — they do not replace it.
Your responsibility as a user
AllergyPass is a tool. You remain the person making the decisions. That means you are responsible for:
- Verifying ingredients and preparation methods directly with restaurant staff before ordering
- Communicating your allergies clearly in person — the card supports this, but verbal confirmation matters
- Assessing your own risk tolerance and making personal decisions about where and what to eat
- Carrying prescribed emergency medication at all times if you have a severe allergy
- Staying informed about your specific allergens and the environments you're navigating
This isn't legal hedging. Food allergy management in an unfamiliar country genuinely requires your active judgment. AllergyPass is here to make that easier — not to remove the need for it.
