I developed a lactose and gluten intolerance a few years into living in Thailand, and honestly, just avoided restaurants and cafés due to the language barrier of trying to explain it. However, after coming across this Allergy Pass Card, it's become so much easier to go out and about - I just show my phone without having to use Google Translate every time.
A very useful app when traveling. It helped me clearly communicate my food restrictions and avoid foods that could cause me problems.
The service is good and very convenient, it’s been needed for a while.
Wording differences can have big consequences, so every card follows three principles.
01
Cards use structured, versioned translations designed for restaurant communication.
02
We clearly distinguish languages that have undergone native-speaker review from those that have not. See the review register
03
Review your allergy card before completing your purchase.
A travel allergy card — sometimes called an allergy translation card or chef card — is a written card stating your food allergies in the local language of the country you're visiting. Instead of explaining a medical condition in a foreign language, you hand the card to restaurant staff, who can pass it straight to the kitchen. AllergyPass builds food allergy cards in 60+ languages, with severity levels and cross-contamination warnings. The English card is free and arrives as an image you can show offline; a $7.99 one-time One Language pass unlocks one translated destination language and adds a printable PDF.
Cards are not translated by AI or a machine-translation service when you build them. They use fixed wording from AllergyPass's versioned translation database. Native speakers completed reviews of Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese in July 2026, providing natural local phrasing rather than literal word-for-word translations. Reviewers are being sought for the remaining languages. That review covered the card wording in use at the time; the kitchen cross-contact note, the dietary-requirement heading and food names added since then were added separately and have not yet had native-speaker review.
Your card is emailed to you, so you can keep it offline. Free cards arrive as an image. One Language and All Languages cards add a printable PDF and, for cards with up to three allergens or restrictions, a link to add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Yes, on paid cards. Add the pass to Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Google Wallet on Android. Apple's Wallet pass layout has limited space, so a pass holds up to three allergens or restrictions. For longer lists, use the image or the printable PDF, which have no limit.
No. There is no sign-up and no credit card — pick your allergens, choose a language, and your card builds instantly in your browser. Nothing leaves your device while you build. Enter an email only when you want the finished card sent to you, which is how we deliver it.
No. One Language ($7.99) and All Languages ($29.99) are one-time payments with no renewal. All Languages includes languages added later.
AllergyPass was built specifically for high-stakes situations. Cards are severity-coded (life-threatening, severe, intolerance), can include an optional cross-contamination warning, and are phrased specifically for kitchen contexts. It cannot guarantee allergen-free food or verify how food is prepared, and no communication tool eliminates risk entirely. Always confirm with staff, carry your emergency medication, and know how to reach emergency healthcare at your destination. Look into travel insurance for food allergies before you go.
